Thats how to do a tunnel game!
Tunnel games are a fun genre, reminiscent of old classic games via the need to be quick to action, the ever present quest for a high score and the feeling of “one more go” rearing its head.
Supersonic HD has all of the above, but tack on a great musical soundtrack that’s a perfect fit to the game, and a graphical touch that borrows (very favourably) from a somewhat Tron’esque style, and you get one of the better additions to the apps store. But a flashy and nice sounding game isn’t enough. It has to be fun and above all, it MUST control well. Does this game meet the challenge?
To help determine this, let’s look at the control. Tunnel games are no different than others that require movement of either the Ipad, or even moving a virtual stick. A dev can knock on a pretty good control scheme, but depending on the user’s personal preference, it can be a hit/miss affair. Sometimes, it’s difficult for a dev to find a “sweet spot” where the control works for the majority of gamers, we are all different after all. So with this in mind, it’s absolutely imperative that devs take this into account and offer gamers the choice of different control schemes, sensitivity settings, etc. Kuuamesa understands this perfectly, as Supersonic HD includes various control options that should ensure the game is playable to just about everyone.
Any recommendations to help improve this already excellent game? Perhaps it would be good to see another sensitivity setting that allows even tighter control, but the 4 there seem fine. Obviously, having more tracks could be cool, but what is included has randomness built in, so it doesn’t always feel like I’ve played a specific level but more is usually good in this case. The two modes of play add a good variety to the game that should keep high score fans coming back for more. Perhaps the addition of a 3rd person view but aside from adding tracks, there’s enough here to keep one happy for a while.
So end result, I’m playing a game that looks great, sounds great, plays great and ultimately, is a blast to play. Thanks devs, keep it coming.
